Rethink needed on employee share plans

There are calls for an overhaul of the tax arrangements for employee share plans to reverse a significant decline in employee ownership.

A report by Employee Ownership Australia and New Zealand, the body representing broad-based employee ownership, says tax legislation introduced in 2009 has cut share plan participation and the amount of capital invested, damaging productivity and innovation.
